What is everyone's opinion on when the Panthers will truly do with drafting an O-Lineman? I'm honestly afraid that we do something stupid and draft Davin Joseph in the first. Maybe I'm paranoid, but things like this keep me up at night. I would not mind using 58 and 88/89 and move up to around 43 and draft Joseph, but what are everyone else's thoughts? OL

It wouldn't be stupid, although I think we're fine with Mathis. Joseph will go either at the end of the first or at the very top of the second. Personally I'm not hoping for someone on the offensive line with our first pick, and I can't imagine how that player would be BPA, but it makes sense for us to look there in the third or maybe even second round depending upon who is there.

I'd be reeeeeeeeeally good with Joseph at #27

Interesting... any thoughts on trading 88/89 and moving up in the second to get Joseph? Anybody think that he'll be there? I'm assuming that Joseph would translate to RG and keep Wharton at LT or would it be vice-versa?

magnus made a good point about the team consistently talking about Wharton as a tackle, and I think they're probably correct. If somehow we lucked into Justice (won't happen, but I'm just using it as an example), I think that would bump Wharton to a backup rather than to guard. But no, I don't think we can trade up enough in the second round to get Joseph. That said, I suppose we could move up for Lutui, but I don't see that happening.

It's a good question, though. Having a lot of draft picks and not many roster spots suggests that we'll trade up somewhere, but I have no idea for whom. Aside from safety, we don't have any truly obvious needs. Even RB isn't that big of a need if you expect us to keep Foster around and think Shelton will contribute in some way.

I think that guard is a potentially awful situation in the 1st personally, but mostly because we already have a prospect there, and because guard's much better value later. It's simply uncommon for a guard to be picked this high, though it does happen.

I do like Joseph. He's a better prospect than Mathis. Mathis is, however, more than good enough, and honestly a better prospect than anyone we've had at guard, other than Wahle, since 2003. I'd rather have Joseph here than Whitworth, another player consistently named in conjunction with the franchise, who fits nothing we need.

But I also believe we can get excellent OT depth and guard competition in the 3rd, potentially even in the same player. I was somewhat hoping that the competition would be a relatively inexpensive veteran, but to this point I'm simply happy we're not continuing the calls for Mathis at center. Since we don't have a ton of needs, a first round guard wouldn't be awful, but almost any other position we could logically pick would probably land more output.

He could be there. I wouldn't mind moving to 45 to get him, if he were there, but I'm not certain he would be.

Wharton is our left tackle, with the exception that we could get Justice, which is almost as likely as us getting Bush.

mags, what do you think of Whimper as a G/T? I've seen a bunch of ECU games in the last two years, but I wasn't exactly in a condition to scout and wasn't even thinking about looking at their offensive linemen.

he's that type guy, yeah. Good enough to be a 3rd, possibly, good feet, quickness. Toledo, Stenavich aren't awful, but certainly rate lower.

I like the Idea of White at #27, followed by moving up in the second with #57 and #89 for Bing, Simpson or Bullocks (seems they favor Bing), then grabbing Kevin Booth at #88, Toledo or McQuisant would work for me there too.
What about Derek Morris? I got him rated in the area of our #88, but I don't know much about him.
