Yep... not world beaters on defense, but we're good enough to win games with a little help from the other side of the ball.... offensively, worst in the league

I know I am always throwing major props to Ron Meeks, but other than the lack of takeaways, this defense is as good as any, play for play, considering what they're dealing with. I have never seen a top-5 overall defense spend 2/3 of each game on the field, yet maintain a consistency and lack of big plays.

Meeks said it, and its quite simple. If this team wants to win more games, it will come down to our defense taking it one level higher and matching our offense's giveaway count with takeaways.

My thought is this is Carolina's 2nd best defense under Fox, with 2005 as the best. (2002 was probably at least on par with 2010, but we had more vets on that squad)

I'm still encouraged by the collective progression of many newbies. Godfrey in particular--he's flying around and looking great.

Offensively. Its the line, and the qb's. Neither position is executing at a level acceptable to any NFL coach, and I know Davidson, Fox, Magazu and Rip are fucking sick over it.
Well. Except for Fox. He's already broken ground on his new North Texas mansion.

Oh, and Darin, this is nothing personal, but the idea that letting 34 walk, at any cost, is a bad idea. At this point, let Kalil and TD walk, and rebuild via-draft. Or let Mack have a shot a center. But losing Kalil scares me none. TD's crippled. 34 is a playmaker, and he's sorely missed. The run blocking is horrible right now, even from the left side.

I don't recall us ever having this much suckage on a consistent basis.

The Rams are a good team--well rounded and well coached.

Two things I can now say, with confidence:

1. Our offensive line is too small, and are getting pushed around in the run game.

2. We have no quarterbacks on the roster ready to lead. Moore, my fav of the bunch, has alarmed me with not only his panic, but his admission that he was not playing "loose"...as the color guy for FOX said yesterday, Moore had always been playing with house money. The entire offseason was built around his presence as "the guy". Had they gone with Clausen in May, who knows--he'd probably look more like Bradford in terms of efficiency.

Smith's absence in the preseason was bad--very bad. Otah's absence has cut the field in half, in many areas, for a young offense.

Several vet signings (Flozel Adams, Terrell Owens, Alge Crumpler)--these are all players that would have helped the pass AND run game, at a pretty low cost. But Jerry--and it all comes back to this--will not spend a dime more than he has to for a lame-duck coach, when 2011 will undoubtedly call for several new players to fit the schematics of a new HC (and potentially new offensive staff all together).

In the meantime, I would keep every single non-offensive assistant coach for 2011, less Rodgers--we could do better.

I think that if Jeff Davidson stays here even as an equipment manager we could expect a revolt.

I hope he wasn't a budding genius waiting to unleash hell on opponents, only to have Fox standing over him in every offensive meeting, saying "no, no....we don't need to do that>"

Nah. Davidson, like Scherer, had no real credible resume. Hard to believe they made it this far.

thats the same Jeff Davidson that DARRIN GANTT said could be a head coach in this league in a few years.

Being a little more creative doesn't mean get out the Maddden play book and btw this team could not run a trick play if their life depended on it. Yesterday I saw Brady in the shotgun on like 2 and 5 and watched the Panthers try play action on 3 and 15. This offense is beyond painful to watch
