With the rise of people like LeBron James and people like Steve Smith, I get the feeling the TOs of the sporting world are fading. More and more it seems to me that the flash and trash is giving way to a more mature althete. If it is better people around these people or better marketing, something is changing. The choices being made are better and it is encouraging.

I think we maybe on the verge of a major trend in pro sports. Or an awakening that that the "bad-boy" image and lifestyle is not what people want and not a quality way of life.

Mike Tirico made a good point the other day regarding some of the reigning champions. The Patriots are all "good guys" with no huge superstar. Tom Brady is their figure-head player and he seems to be a good dude.

The past 2 NBA champs are the Pistons and Spurs. (I think?) I don't know much about Detroit, but Tirico said their players keep each other's egos in check; the Spurs obviously have Tim Duncan.

The White Sox were a relatively "no-name" team - as in, unless you follow the sport very closely, you may not be too familiar with their players.

Hell, even NASCAR, Kurt Busch's auspicious year came to an end as Tony Stewart was lauded for becoming a likeable person.

Unfortunately, today's youngsters are being raised with the "highlight" mentality... that one great play supercedes five bad ones. For every Jason Williams no-look pass that makes the highlights, six or seven turnovers don't. That's where the future of sports lies, I am afraid.

It's these "old-school" coaches and teams that must continue to win to prove that TEAM is more important than INDIVIDUAL (even though each member of the team plays for a huge salary). I hope the attitudes of the Terrell Owens et al find a way to fade to the background.

I think it goes beyond the sales to the persons individual life. They are choosing to be more responsible because it means a better home, family and public life.

I'm wouldn't doubt if there were more Brady jerseys than Owens.
