last i heard, we had 2.7 million left in cap space. If Troy Brown comes on board, its even less than that. How much space do we need to have in order to sign our larger than normal group of draftees? $4 million? $5 milllion? More than that?

Will there be veteran cuts or extensions? Minter and Mitchell going or staying. How will Saurebruns impending release effect the situation? Do they have to wait until June 1st to cut him in order for it have the least amount of cap consequences? I know Weinke is the only veteran behind Jake, but he sure is expensive and is in the last year of his deal, right? Long snapper gone? Any other ways to save some money?

Sauerbrun's gone frees a little, but don't forget there's still an offer on the table to Mark Fields. He takes it and that's more we owe. That'll probably eat anything we have left, if Brown's deal doesn't.

Maybe so. One thing is for sure though, the Panthers now hoave a lot more leverage at the negotiating table than they did before the draft. One possibility: maybe the Panthers have had an offer on the table that they are unwlling to make any sweeter for Minter. So far, Minter has held his ground for a better deal since he is by far our best safety. Now, with the acquisition of Davis, he probably cant feel as secure as he did before, and might be more willing to settle for a lower price. They turn the pressure up on him by making Davis 2nd string SS in minicamp, letting him see first hand that they will replace him if it comes to that.

I'm thinking Buck might be gone... and possibly Mitchell depending on if they are comfortable enough with a replacement at C.

Davis too? I could see that. With Goings having a decent year, DeShaun healthy and Shelton in the mix, Having Davis kind of hinders the progress of #26 and #35.

I'm betting Jason Kyle is gone too. He gets paid big money for a long snapper and Hartgardiner (or whatever) can do it much cheaper and also play backup Center if need be.

I think everyone stays (mentioned). We have some players with potential. But none proven. Minter's probably a better FS than anyone we have. We may be surprised, but I doubt they want to count on it. We have no real alternative at C. We can afford to keep everyone. So they stay.

If we do sign Brown, it would be for veteren minimum, I bet.

2.7 mil plus whatever Sauerbrun saves by June 1? That should be pretty close. Right or wrong, they're heavy on veteran depth in places like safety, and that'll come into play with cuts to 53 in camp.
