Former Virginia Tech quarterback gives $10,000 for victim families

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has teamed up with the United Way and donated $10,000 to assist families affected by the massacre at Virginia Tech, his foundation announced Wednesday.

'When tragic things like this happen, families have enough to deal with, and if I can help in some small way, that's the least I can do,' said Vick, who played football at Virginia Tech before joining the Falcons in 2001 as the top overall pick in the NFL draft.

The Vick Foundation is collecting donations from local communities in both Atlanta and Virginia that will be placed in the United In Caring Fund for Victims of the VA Tech Tragedy and the special fund at the United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd counties, which serves the Virginia Tech area.

The foundation said the money will be used to provide help with funeral expenses, transportation for family members and other support services.

He has a $100,000,000 contract. 10k is a drop in the bucket, it's like me giving them a dollar (which I didn't, but I'm not a VaTech alum either). Cheapskate if you ask me.

I would have to agree that 10K while not insignificant is a small amount for a man who is worth millions. I don't know how much he has given his alma mater over the years but 10K is kinda cheap. Maybe he's pissed that they booted his shitbag of a brother off campus. Maybe he needs a new water bottle. Maybe he is investing in some expensive tutoring on the passing game and how it applies to offensive football.

That is nice. There probably isn't a huge monetary need there. The need is emotional, and its a nice gesture.

Does it need to sell you? I'm certain those families are quite happy to see some money come in to help with death related expenses. Good for Vick.
