Seems that 25% rollback didn't set a new standard. How about Peter Schaefer scoring 50 points (a career high for the 7th year veteran) averaging $2.1 mil on a 4 year deal with the Senators? Makes Recchi a steal at 2.2 mil, which I originally thought was too much. The Sabres seem to be getting their asses handed to them in arbitration too. Certain dumbass teams like the Blues and Tampa (Brad Richards for $7.8 mil/year??) are signing players for too much, and players in arbitration are using that as a measuring stick. The NHL may be fucked again soon.

Gomez with 84 pts gets $5 mil. Stall and Cole get 4 mil. Stall got about 100 pts, and Cole was kicking ass before the injury. None of this is making sense. Blame everyone but Bettman.

It's hard to believe after the mess the NHL just had that some owners can't control the knee jerk spending. With the 25% rollback and the free agency rules, it's such an opportunity to set a new standard. They need to restrain and be smart about decisions that are going to affect the league for years. There is the potential for free agency to be for the good of the sport.
