MY PC IS SCREWED UP...AGAIN...

I'm on my roomate's pc now.

Here's the thing:

I had to reinstall my Mcafee since I backed up everything and reinstalled windows 98. So, I have been downloading shit from kazaa like a madman before I installed Mcafee. So, I thought I had a virus so I reinstalled it. Sure enough, I had a virus called W32.pate.something. Anyway, it cleaned about 1,200 files and deleted 19. They were all files of the virus. But, I couldn't log onto the internet anymore.

So, I deleted mcafee and several other files called rundll32 cuz i thought they were a part of mcafee. But they aren't. Now, here's what is happening.

No internet.
No Wmplayer.
Unable to start the Win98 cd in the cd drive.
And it barely will open any windows like my control panel and usually just locks up.


ANY SUGGESTIONS??? PLEASE. I'M A DUMBASS.

I've already backed this bitch up once. I don't want to do it again. I just need to get those files back and figure out why my internet stopped working.

because rundle does a lot of stuff.

go into setup and make the cdrom a bootdisk, then start windows with cd support. and reload windows. it should ask you if you want to keep the same installation but reload any missing files. or something like that it's been a year since I've had w98 problems. any way if you make the cdrom a bootdisk, it'll start the installation procedure when you turn on the computer.

If this doesn't work you can unpack the rundll file from the cab file right off the cd using dos commands

OK, how do you make it a bootdisk? I can't run the setup part. It gets hung up when I try and run the 98 cd. Imma gonna call Dell. Thanks guys.

If none of that works is there any chance you can get another hard drive? If not, just go buy one for like $50, install Windows on it, then copy your files over to the new hard drive, then you can reformat the old drive and use it as a second drive. Make sure your case has room for another drive before going out an buying one.
