www.musicbrainz.org it's a pretty cool mp3 tagging system. figures out what songs you've got and fixes the id3 tags to have the right info. not sure about things like genre and year produced, tho.

i also poked around with moodlogic and it's interesting but i'm not sold on it. for all of it's various ways of categorizing music, they don't let you categorize BY ALBUM! wtf? silly. also, you need to "activate" your music and it doesn't seem like their database is even close to comprehensive, so you'll likely end up doing a lot of work on your own...

anybody else try these?

I use Musicmatch to do that - it has a lookup feature for tags as well.

i had music match on my dell laptop as the standard music player, but i didn't like it at all. seemed really buggy, but maybe it's better these days. maybe i'll give it another go.

I have never had a problem with it. But I bought the version from MM. Maybe they don't put much effort into the free one from Dell.
