I was sure the sabres could have kept either Danny Briere or Chris Drury (but not both). Instead they lose both. Now this happy horseshit: Buffalo News reports today that Drury offered last fall to sign a four-year deal for around $20 million. They don't act — the we-don't-negotiate-extensions-during-the-season policy, you know — and drury decides to test FA, eventually signing for $7M per season for five years with NYR. If Buffalo would have accepted that offer, it's possible they could have inked Briere to a similar contract, albeit for a longer term. same thing happened last year: Jay McKee would have signed in-season for three years and $9 million; Regier strings him along and he signs for $16 M over four years with St. Louis. Meanwhile, ownership extends Regier's contract. Oh, but they signed Adam Mair to a three-year deal and word is they plan on bringing Teppo Numinnen back.
