Sid Hartman: Moss will play in pain

Randy Moss is suffering from plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

It has bothered him since the final six weeks of the NFL season, and it is not getting better.

Talking about the injury for the first time Wednesday, Moss made it clear he is going to play despite the pain he feels when he runs.

"I'll probably be about 85 percent this season but I will play," he said. "The Vikings need me as a receiver."

Moss said doctors have not come up with a cure or even something to make the foot feel better. Unless things change, Moss likely will be slowed down some all season. And that is not good news for the Vikings.

As Vikings coach Mike Tice said: "Moss has serious problems with his foot. But he is one guy that plays hurt."

Moss took a lot of abuse from some of the media for not performing at his best in the final part of the 2003 season. But a lot of players wouldn't have even suited up while in such pain

Is that the same thing Meadows is suffering from?

I think there are different degrees of it. Its probably like tendinitis, from what I understand a facia is. Its a sheath around the muscle and tendon. Sometimes rest will straighten everything out, if its just strained or something, unless there is an underlying problem that doesn't go away,

I have had this injury in my right foot for almost two years. Sometimes, it just will not go away. Needed a nice cortisone shot to complete my last marathon. now that is a wonder drug.

Here is the medical explaination of what it is:

Plantar Fasciitis is an inflammation caused by excessive stretching of the plantar fascia. The plantar fascia is a broad band of fibrous tissue which runs along the bottom surface of the foot, attaching at the bottom of the heel bone and extending to the forefoot. When the plantar fascia is excessively stretched, this can cause plantar fasciitis, which can also lead to heel pain, arch pain, and heel spurs.

I have no idea about this but could this have happened to Moss because he refused to stretch before games?

damn. all he needs is shoe inserts. i had pf and tore the faciata in my left foot last summer. athletic inserts and a boot to wear at night and they haven't bothered me in 6 months. i played soccer through the pain for two years and would've kept playing had i not torn the faciata. man, these nfl players are pussies.
