What if we go 9-7 or 10-6 but miss the playoffs? What do we do with Rivera? Let his final year play out? Extend him despite 3 years wo/ playoffs? Fire him?

Rivera is getting 2 more years regardless... Richardson is not going to pay someone else to do a job he's already paying for

it won't be that bad... Gettleman gets a pass this season & next because of Rivera & the cap, and prob 2 more after that with his new HC... so figure 4 more years of wtf

Get out from underneath a good portion of the bad contracts now, then move forward with a plan. No way in hell Rivera gets an extention. Hurney was his life line

I think it's playoffs or GTFO, which is probably what JR told him during their offseason meeting. A winning record wo/ playoffs could make the decision interesting though. I don't think anybody wants another 2010.

Yeah, I don't think there's any chance JR puts the team through another lame-duck season. Rivera either gets fired after the season or gets an extension. Chicago was another situation where a newly hired GM let the incumbent head coach stay on for a season before kicking him to the curb. I imagine that Rivera will not only need to make the playoffs but probably win one game in order to stick around long-term.

I knew Rivera was fucked when Gettleman called him "solid". I think there's a pretty good chance he gets fired in-season if we suffer another terrible start.
