Taylor to AZ isn't a monumental reach, but I think most people have put an offensive player there. Interesting.

Pittsburgh trading up for Roethlisberger is a nice touch. But the NE trade, IMO, is less plausible.
Not sure I pick up the Atlanta pick.
The trade for Carolina is bad value in the picks given up, and I don't get the trade up to get Rogers. But I don't have him first round. Getting Jones for Carolina is nonetheless good work.
Keith Smith isn't bad - I guess if you're looking to bring him along behind Wesley and etc., that works, but I woulda put Ratliff there. Colbert at the end of 3 is very good value, and necessary IMO. Pull in a guard with that ~100 pick and then a blocking TE like Ryan with the lower 4, and you're good to go.

Of course with Claridge being talked to, harder to put a guard in the mix.

I like Losman in Oakland. Even though that's not good value, IMO, to take 21 and 32 for 2, Jackson and Losman are nonetheless quality. Getting Jenkins in the 2nd is good work as well.

Someone in the top 5 always does something that seems to be off balance. As I was looking at it, I started thinking that Taylor to Arizona seemed plausible. The Cards could stand to upgrade at FS and they need a consistent play maker on D.
To be honest, I didn't really see a pressing need for the Cards other than competition and a Vet QB. They have a host of young talent, Denny could be on to something special down there???

Al Davis always pulls something goofy, usually goofy-bad, but this would be a huge draft day trade. I think it is a win-win. The Raiders get to address 2 of thier bigger needs and NE avoids having to pay 2 #1's. I'll admit, It's a little out there...but I checked the value and it is in line with what would be considered acceptable. Plus the Raiders are due for a good draft and those three picks...shit they could quit right there and do better than most would.
On Atlanta, in retrospect, I think they might look @ Roy Williams there...but they do need a DT to round out the roster as they move to the 4-3.

I think the value is OK, not great...plus I was looking as much at what value the Panthers could have gotten from #31 and felt it was mostly reach or not a need.
I've seen Rogers as high as 27, I think? I had him at 35, which #31 wouldn't be a huge reach.
Moving down and gabbing Jones has been on my mind for some time, just never saw the value in him @ #31, and I think you'd agree there. I was actually aiming for Thomas in the second, but I couldn't find a way to get him passed KC there considering thier need at CB. I actually have Ratleff, Vasher and Smith rated real close. I don't care for Ratleff at all and Smith seems like the type of Pick the Panthers seem to make there every year.
I really like Colbert, not sure what it is exactly...he just does everything well.

We'll see what I pull out of my ass when I start the 4th tonight...I was actually suprised you didn't mention the fact that I ignored WR for nearly an entire round.

I just don't move down that far, and I don't find Jackson and a risky QB pick at 32 to be good value.



Avoid paying two #1s yes. But you (Pats) are still forking over 15 million up front, as opposed to maybe 8 million up front to two.

I think I'd call their pass rush a pressing need, even with the picks they've spent the past couple years. Of course, I haven't paid attention to them in free agency, so that might have been addressed.

Team with Hall, maybe, but nothing extremely necessary about that pick. Could be a corner or WR, though, more than DT.

Yes. Very solid at everything. You know he'll work hard. Just doesn't have as much potential. I do put him around where guys who've dropped - Jenkins, Clayton are.

That happens. Remember the run on safeties in the 2nd of 2000 (Grant, Beckett, and so on)? None were chosen in 1, 7 were chosen in 2, and I swear there weren't any chosen from there to about the 5th.

I don't find Losman to be that risky at all. He's really just missing the experience (thanks to Ramsay) that I'd want to see, but I find him to be low risk. OTOH, he could go anywhere from the end of 1 to middle 3rd.

But yeah, I would call the value itself bad.

So to check that - the chart lists it at 2600 points. 21? 875 32? 625. YOu're losing about 1200 points on one side. 56 is worth 350. IMO it would probably take 21, 32, a current and a future 2nd, at very minimum, to get that high.

I don't think it has. Of course, no one that high works at DL, or LB for that matter, and Taylor's probably the only defender that could even sniff #3. I don't really think they have to have a WR, with Bryant Johnson there, but chances are, he won't be as touted. Major reach. But I do think they have enough there for right now. Honestly, right now that's becoming a very hard pick to read.

Yeah, I didn't really look at value or anything, just saying that their pass rush has been at the bottom of the league despite having high draft picks and at least one decent linebacker. You're right, it's hard to say what they might do, that'll be a tough pick for them to make.
