OK guys, think way back into the 1990's when you had dial up, and you're where I am now. I installed a new DVD-ROM drive last night (and while I know that doesn't have anything to di with it) I think I must have hit something inside my comp. Now whenever I dial into NetZero (yeah, I'm cheap too) my modem is making all of those spine jarring modem noises during dialup. Before, it was silent. Any guesses on how to regain that?

Start, Settings, Control Panel, Modems (or Phone and Modems) click on the tab that shows the modem, click properties, there should be a slide for the speaker volume. Set it how you want it.
