MLS to Expand by 2 Teams

MLS Expands by 2 teams . . . Sorry Virginia, it looks like the Carolinas won't be getting a team this time around !!!!!!




Ummm, why does there need to be 2 teams in the LA market ? ? ? Why don't they put that team in a 'new' market instead? MLS isn't popular enough yet to support multiple teams in the same market, even in LA . . Put the 2nd expansion team in Portland, Seattle, or one back in Florida (Tampa or Miami). Also, what happened to the Triad's efforts to get a MLS franchise? A few years ago, bigwigs there were talking about building a privately financed stadium in Downtown Winston-Salem . . I guess this plan never got off the ground . . . .


BOTTOM LINE: Carolina would be a good place for an MLS franchise. Charlotte is maxed out sports wise. Either put it in Raleigh O-R Triad area. Hmmmmm, MLS soccer wouldn't be bad programming for CSET now, come to think of it . . . . . .

Putting a team in Salt Lake City is more bizarre than putting a second one in L.A. in my opinion. I think if they were going to expand by two teams they should have put one in St. Louis and one in Seattle. Supposedly this isn't the last of their expanding though, so maybe before it's over both of those cities will have a team.

I don't think it would be a good idea to put a team anywhere in the Carolinas. The Triangle is no more attractive to MLS than any of about 30 other cities in the country, and the Triad is even less attractive than the Triangle. A Carolinas MLS team would fail miserabley.
