The mother of Carolina Panthers safety Mike Minter died Thursday morning in Oklahoma, coach John Fox said.

Minter had left for Oklahoma on Tuesday night after his mother suddenly became ill.

Fox said he's not sure if Minter will play in Saturday's preseason opener against Buffalo and the veteran player has been told to take as much time as he needs.

"We're on his schedule right now," Fox said.
