Arrest order issued for former NCSU player

PITTSBORO - A Chatham district court judge has issued an order for the arrest of former N.C. State basketball player Marcus Melvin after he failed to appear in court Tuesday on charges that he tried to strangle his then-girlfriend.
Melvin, 24, of Raleigh, was charged with felonious assault by strangulation and communicating threats after the Aug. 1 altercation.

According to court documents, District Court Judge Patricia DeVine ordered that upon his arrest, Melvin's $12,500 bond be doubled to $25,000 and that he surrender his passport as a condition of release.

Melvin averaged nearly 11 points and six rebounds as a forward at N.C. State from 2000-04. He was a second-team All-ACC selection in his senior year.
Since leaving NCSU, Melvin has played overseas, including the Italian League.
