Naw, haven't heard it, but I've been under a rock all day. BTW, there is no such thing as a "couple of weeks" when you're talking Planters Facia.....

seriously though, i have had plantar fasciitis. it hurts like hell. kinda depends on how far along it is. i ran a marathon with it but needed a cortisone shot to get me throught it. he might have chronic problems with it all year.

All of these injuries are pointing to LACK OF STRETCHING!
Smitty's hammy- lack of stretching
Mangum's foot- lack of stretching

The plantar fasciitis problem is due to not stretching the achilles tendon/ankle area. I had the same problem. I talked to a personal trainer and she said to stretch it. Keeping off of it for a few weeks and then when he gets back to playing he needs to stretch BEFORE and AFTER practice.

Mangum never does much in preseason (for instance, I remember Seidman having a couple nice catches, which were obviously a lot more than midseason), so that's not a huge deal. Hell, I don't want to disrespect his contribution to the team but if he had to go on IR, we still have 3 allright TEs.

If he did go on IR it might open a door for a younger guy with more potential.....

Worst case scenario this gives the other guys more reps in training camp and preseason. It'll make it easier to evaluate who to keep and who to cut.

Update...

12:01 pm | Panther's Mangum could be sidelined for weeks

Panthers tight end Kris Mangum said Thursday he's dealing with a case of Plantar Fascitis, which could keep him out of practice for several weeks.

Plantar Fascitis is inflammation of the bottom of the foot, caused by excessive stretching of the plantar fascia. Mangum has his left foot in a cast. He hasn't practiced in several days and said trainers told him he'll wear the cast for a few weeks.

Mangum said he first experienced problems in June workouts and the symptoms got worse when training camp opened.
