Lee Evans - Wisconsin

One mock I saw had us taking him in the first round. Anyone have any thoughts on it? A good wide out would be nice to have for depth and the future.

Decent fit, bird chested guy who almost looks built like a back from the ribs up. Enough speed, does everything well. Built like Smitty otherwise - not huge but big hands, long arms. Tends to stride a bit too much for my tastes. But overall, a very technically sound receiver who can do everything we want. I like him. If we went receiver first round, he'd be a target. Not over Woods or Clayton, no. But if we were looking for Woods, and Woods wasn't there, we could do just as well with Evans.

He has a knee in his past, but concerns of re-injury are not greater than the average athlete and physically he's been sufficiently rehabilitated.

The mock I saw had Clayton and Woods gone when we picked. Clayton went to New England and Woods to Philly.

How tall is Evans? Could he be an eventual replacement for Moose? If so he and Smith would make a good tandem for us for a long time.

Was considered a sure high pick at one time a few years ago, but really tore up his ACL bad. Came back and had a better than expected year and seems to have recovered.

The few times I've seen him, I like how he goes up and fights for a ball. He isn't the tallest guy, average height, but is very strong and can leap. Vs WVU this year he singlehandedly won that game. He's got the toughness and chip on the shoulder Fox likes.

He won't do what Moose does in this offense, though, with the blocking and the wide target. He's more like a slightly bigger Smitty.

If we are going to draft a receiver that high I would like for him to be a guy we can pair with Smith for the long term. I think you need a big guy like Moose to go with Smith. One speed guy one posession guy. Maybe it would work with Evans but I would rather he be a bit taller.

i hate labeling guys like that. i want two receivers the other teams have to worry about. they could both be midgets, so as long as they score TDs.

[Shocker]

Evans plays better on the field than his measurables indicate he should. Not huge, not a blazer and not as agile as some top guys. He is a very good player on the field though and he reminds me of Steve Smith a little. He doesn't have Smith agility or top speed but Evans is very tough like Smith and runs nice routes and makes a lot of plays. He can get deep and make the circus catch. End of round 1 to mid-round 2 is about where he belongs in this WR deep draft.
