Will he cost too much or would the price swap be similar to Mitchell's? I'm just thinking he could be had because a lot of people will want to be getting out of New Orleans this year.

hes going to command big bucks from everything Ive read .

EDIT: just saw the Prisco FA thread

2. LeCharles Bentley, C/G, Saints: Bentley is 26 and will not turn 27 until December. He's in the prime of his career. Bentley played guard his first two seasons in the league and center the past two. Some say he's a better guard, but he wants to play center. Wherever he plays, he brings a tough-guy attitude to the job. He doesn't back down to anyone. Just ask Warren Sapp, a player he whipped several times when they were in the same division. The Saints aren't expected to put the franchise tag on him and Bentley wants out of New Orleans, so look for him to hit the market.

Mitchell wasn't that expensive; $2.5 mil per year or so.

Personally, if possible, I'd like to avoid a 2004 - type free agency, but not spend quite as much as we did in 2005. We really don't have room for a guy as expensive as Bentley (or Alexander, of course), but we might be able to snag a Jeff Hartings, if cut, for around $3 mil, if we want a veteran.

I doubt we could sign Bentley. We do not have the cap room. I am still hopefull that we can re-sign Spoon. I would like to see some mid level free agents brough in for center, wideout and tight end.

I'll be honest with you... while I like Spoon, I consider him expendable. The Panthers have enough options at LBer that a fall off there wouldn't be huge, and they would be able to use that money that was designated for him in other areas in which they are more needy. (IE. RB, WR, DT, and C)

I am not that cofortable that Thomas Davis can fill Spoon's shoes. Spoon has been our one constant. Labia is always hurt and Short and Draft are just servicable. We can get by without Spoon but I think we will suffer some for it. On top of that it just irks me to think we gave that money to the labia and not to Spoon. I wish we were talking about him walking.

Had the roles been reversed and had it been Spoon that was signed and Morgan up for a deal I'd say the same thing. Let the odd man out walk, because LBer isn't as big a need. There are some guys on the roster now that can play. It would possibly be a let off, but not enough in comparison to what we'd gain at other positions, that would improve the team as a whole.

In theory that sounds good but I hate to let a good young player walk. We know what we have in Spoon, the whole bird in the hand is worth two in the bush thing.... I know we could have said that last year about Muhamed but he was getting long in the tooth. Spoon is still young.
