League looking into Panthers-Falcons sideline incident

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The NFL is investigating if Carolina Panthers defensive end Tyler Brayton leveled the Atlanta Falcons' Chris Owens with a blow to the head after Owens was forced off the field during a punt return last week.

League spokesman Greg Aiello told The Associated Press in an e-mail Sunday that "the incident is being reviewed by Merton Hanks for potential discipline, as would any such incident." Hanks, a former player, is the NFL's senior manager and assistant director of operations.
Fox Sports showed a video of the second known incident from Week 14. The New York Jets suspended strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi indefinitely and fined him $25,000 for sticking out his knee and tripping the Miami Dolphins' Nolan Carroll.
The grainy coaches film shows Brayton walking up from the bench area toward the field as Owens is engaged with a Carolina defender. Brayton then drops Owens with what appears to be an elbow to the head.
Panthers spokesman Charlie Dayton said Sunday he was unaware of the incident or the league investigation.

That's way worse than 'The Wall.' It's bush-league and I wish our team wouldn't get involved in shit like that.

Lost a lot of respect for Brayton, I didn't know stuff like that went on. Sure I thought walls and obstructions on the sideline happened, like the guy in the vid said that's legal. But when you have a player on the sideline run off the bench to take a shot at someone in the game that's really ugly behavior.

This has gotten out of hand. This is out of the feild of play and had no effect on the play or the game. No fine. He was clearly out of bounds.

A player on the sidelines has no business striking an opposing player, their only concern should be protecting themselves from injury. I know why this stuff started and it's a defensive reaction to the gunner going out of bounds, but there are already rules governing his ability to make a play if he goes out of bounds willingly. There's no need for vigilante justice on the sidelines.
