With the injury to starting quarterback Tim Rattay (groin), the San Francisco 49ers have not yet considered pursuing a veteran signal-caller, according to SF49ers.com. "We'll have to have that discussion if this appears to be a long rehab that runs into training camp or the beginning of the season," general manager Terry Donahue said. "At this time it is premature to make that decision, because we have to learn more about the medical options for Tim."

San Francisco 49ers QB Tim Rattay (groin) suffered a tear in his upper groin area, during the team's first minicamp practice on Friday, May 7, according to SF49ers.com. "The reality is that the tear is serious and he will miss a substantial amount of time," said general manager Terry Donahue. Rattay will meet team orthopedist Dr. Michael Dillingham over the weekend to discuss his options further, which include either letting the injury heal naturally, or having surgery performed.<<<<<
This is interesting and could lead to the niners entertaining a reasonable offer to acquire Warner from the Rams. I know that they would probably just have to release him but apparently a bunch of teams have expressed an interest in Kurt and there probably isn’t an available vet QB out there who is as good an option for the niners. Warners bum thumb could probably hold up long enough for Rattay to get back, then he’d give them a great backup for a couple of years as Rattay develops.
