CHAPEL HILL — Orlando Magic guard J.J. Redick called UNC's Tyler Hansbrough on Friday to congratulate the forward on breaking his ACC career scoring record.

"It was a little awkward, because I've never talked to J.J. very much; I don't really know him well,'' Hansbrough said. "But when you have a great college player like that who calls you, who's accomplished a lot, you just beat a record -- it just means a lot. And to just kind of push away the Duke-UNC thing, to try to get over that, it was a little difficult, but it was something you have to grow up and do sometimes."

Redick also told Hansbrough he figured before the season that the record would fall, and wished the senior the best of luck. The Tar Heels play Gonzaga in the NCAA regional semifinals on Friday.

I thought he was gracious, just thought it was funny how he has to 'get over' the Duke-UNC thing and he has to 'grow up' to do it.

I could care less how much smoke he blows up JJ's ass, JJ doesn't even start on my Alltime-Duke team.

LOL, most of the Duke/UNC guys play summer ball together.....most are good friends.....so it was kind of odd that TH could not rationalize that it was one great player congratulating another great player.....kinda like how Obama spoke well of Bush during his inauguration speech....it is something you do out of class/respect.....though i guess when you are 25 and still in college somethings might come a little slower than others.

Not crying, just thought it was an interesting story. Again, I could care less how Tyler responds. I thought it was a nice gesture by Redick and an interesting window into Tyler's social awkwardness.
