WFNZ has its second solid talk show in Dan Patrick!! (Tony K being the other).


And Hackman is back to a 4-hour show.

Oh yeah!!!!

No more clones. No more Romey.

Life could not get better. Well, it could, but man, I can now tune my radio back to 610 before I go to work.

I'm gonna miss the clones though . . . Are they any better or worse than the regular crew who call into PRIMETIME ? ? ? I had a feeling this move was coming when DJ Stout (WFNZ's Ops Manager) asked listeners to call in their .02 on Tony K & Jim Rome. Don't get me wrong though, based on what I heard today Dan Patrick show seems to be awright . . .

WFNZ makes changes to weekday lineup
Dan Patrick is in and Jim Rome is out on WFNZ-AM (610).
Charlotte’s sports radio station will begin airing ESPN’s Dan Patrick Show 1-3 p.m. weekdays, beginning today. Patrick’s show will replace the Jim Rome Show, which had been in the station’s early afternoon slot since summer 2001.
“Rome’s show just never took off as we had hoped, in the ratings as well as being accepted by our listeners,” said WFNZ operations manager D.J. Stout. “We feel Patrick fits in with what we do better.”
The Patrick show will give WFNZ’s “Prime Time” call-in show a one-hour later start. Also, the Tony Kornheiser show, which had ended at noon, will expand to three hours (10.a.m.-1.p.m.).
WFNZ’s weekday lineup:
6-10 a.m.: Morning Sports Page; 10 a.m.-1 p.m.: Tony Kornheiser; 1-3 p.m.: Dan Patrick; 3-7 p.m.: Prime Time

why listen to rome when you can predict what he's going to say (then hear it repeated 17 times) each show?

Great news. Rome sucked and I hated listening to him(but it was sports). Rome would repeat the same thing over and over again and have about 30 seconds of dead air time in between each thought. How that guy got a show is beyond me and how it's the #1 show is even more ludacris.

Charlotte is now a Rome-free zone...no radio show and even better, he ditched Fox Sports' TV show, too!

Patrick has a good show, I've heard it in other cities. I must be in the minority but I liked Rome.

Yet another reason to stay in Raleigh I suppose. Patrick is a good show, but Rome is SO much more than a sports talk show. Yes he's repetitive. Yes he thinks he's funnier than he actually is. Yes he is what more sports talk shows should aspire to be. He gets to the meat of issues more, he gets to the comedy of issues, he tells the truth like WE wish we could. I agree that not everyone gets him, but when my girlfriend can listen and laugh, then that tells me he is doing something right. She'd never sit through 3 hours of Patrick, but Rome just clicks for some reason. It's yet another loss for the Charlotte market, they should at least play his WHOLE show at night like they used to.

Rome sucks. He's not funny. He sucks up unbearably to anyone he interviews. And this "thanks for the vine" shit is just stupid.
