Carolina Panthers All-Pro defensive tackle Kris Jenkins could need shoulder surgery that might end his season.
General manager Marty Hurney acknowledged Tuesday night the team will consider options because Jenkins has been playing in pain all season. Jenkins has had shoulder problems dating back to college and the latest injury is a subluxation that could require surgery.
"Kris has been trying to fight through it and he's been playing through a lot of pain," Hurney said. "We have to re-evaluate it and see what the next step is."

Hurney said the team's medical staff will examine Jenkins today. If it's decided he needs surgery, it likely would end his season and add to the Panthers' long list of injury problems.
Receiver Steve Smith and running back DeShaun Foster are out for extended periods and running back Stephen Davis, defensive tackle Brentson Buckner, linebacker Mark Fields and kick returner Rod Smart also have missed time with injuries.
Losing Jenkins would be a major blow to a defensive line that was supposed to be the strength of the team coming into the season. But the line hasn't produced up to expectations and the run defense was a major disappointment in Sunday's 20-17 loss to Denver. Broncos running back Reuben Droughns, making his first career start, rushed for 194 yards.
A Pro Bowl performer each of the past two seasons, Jenkins and the rest of the defense have started slowly. The Panthers are 1-3 and coach John Fox was upset with Jenkins last week.
According to several league and team sources, Jenkins was fined an undisclosed amount by the team last week for being late to at least one team meeting.
Hurney said he wouldn't comment on internal matters. Jenkins was unavailable for comment and his agent, Tony Paige, did not return telephone calls or e-mails Tuesday. It's not unusual for Fox to fine players for disciplinary reasons. He recently fined Smart an undisclosed amount for missing practice while he was stuck in Florida during a hurricane and other players have been fined for being late to meetings in the past.
If Jenkins is out for an extended period or the rest of the season, the middle of the defensive line would become very thin. Although Buckner still is productive, he's in his 11th season and has shown some signs of wear and tear. The Panthers released former top backup Shane Burton after he was injured in the preseason.
That leaves only a trio of inexperienced players at defensive tackle. Kindal Moorehead and Omari Jordan would be the top candidates to start if Jenkins is out, and Damane Duckett would be another option.
The Panthers also are scrambling to add depth at running back because Foster will be out six to 10 weeks with a broken clavicle and Smart is out for at least another week with a knee injury. Davis has missed the last three games with a knee injury and although the team is hopeful he can play Sunday at Philadelphia, there's no guarantee he'll be ready.
Backup fullback Nick Goings became the main tailback after Foster was injured against Denver. The Panthers are expected to make a roster move to add a running back today.
The list of available free agents includes James Stewart, Justin Watson, Skip Hicks, Stacey Mack, Brandon Bennett, Damien Anderson and Aveion Cason. The Panthers also worked out David Allen and Charlie Rogers last week and could elevated rookie Joey Harris from the practice squad.
