Is Gruden going to reign in Sapp?

Tony Fabrizio, of the Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden said he plans to talk to DT Warren Sapp about the recent focus he has garnered by the media. "I love this football team, and what happens in pregame warm-ups is something that unfortunately has drawn a lot of attention around here,'' Gruden said. "We need to concentrate on what's going on between the lines, although I am concerned about the image he's portrayed with because he's a great player, and he's great for the game.'' While Gruden wouldn't specify what he plans to say to Sapp, he said he is going to be supportive of him.

Did they ever sign Sapp to an extension? I remember that was a big bone of contention for him when McFarland got his.

I really wonder if the Bucs will re-sign him. He doesn't seen to be well liked by anyone (from the big guy, Tags to fellow players, example to follow).

• NO. 3: Warren Sapp's mouth used to be more tolerable because he was such a great player. Now Sapp has turned so sour and so misguided that the best thing he could do is shut up for a while. His recent comments that the NFL was a "slavemaster" and the league ran a "slave system" were ridiculous. His constant on-field misbehavior is tiresome.

NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said at Ericsson Stadium on Sunday that Sapp was "lucky to be playing this weekend." Tagliabue understandably sounds itchy to suspend Sapp.

• NO. 4: Sapp's team, Tampa Bay, looks amazingly average. San Francisco gashed Tampa Bay (3-3) for 212 rushing yards Sunday, mostly running up the middle where Sapp was supposed to be.

It's hard to disagree with this brutal assessment of Sapp made by his former teammate, Chidi Ahanotu, who now plays for the 49ers: "Give him (Sapp) some pom poms. He's a fading talent. All he wants to do is dance."

UFA? If so, I doubt he stays in Tampa. At least, not as a starter. He's just not playing up to par, and definitely not up to the standard he's set for himself and others with his mouth. He's quickly becoming a serious cancer on that team, and an expensive one at that.

Someone will sign him. Quickly. He ain't making McFarland money, but someone will sign him. Way too many GM's out there managing their team like FFers. I'll bet the Skins have a chat with him.

Yeah, if he was working for a slave system under a slavemaster, I don't think he'd have millions of dollars. Comparing the NFL to slavery is ludicrous, he has the option to stop playing at any time.

Ahonotu's talent faded years ago, but he's right. Sapp's not who he was. We beat the hell out of the Bucs single blocking Warren Sapp. If Booger's not as stout as he is, Sapp looks bad. Like Bruce Smith bad. And he's a lot younger.
But, you refocus him, you get him to work hard, maybe he has a couple years left. Pissing him off by letting him go will do that. So I don't think we've seen the last of John Randle...umm, Warren Sapp, and I'm sure whoever signs him will have fans wondering if he'll "go into the hall" with their helmet. Lame. Doubtful he goes, period.

It's funny you mentioned John Randle, Mags. I was actually surprised to hear his name called during that Sunday nighter against the Niners a couple of weeks ago. I thought he'd been cut/retired.
