and the cap goes up the expected 10 to 15 million what does that do to our strategy? I would be happy resigning Spoon and bringing in Mike Anderson or Chester Taylor. I would also be on the look out for a decent veteran wideout that could be signed cheaply.

Spoon has an offer on the table form the Panthers, he's going to look to see what the market offers starting Monday, he say's he'll give the Panthers a chance to match any other offer he recieves, I doubt they will with Davis waiting in the wings.

Just my opinion, but Davis gives us the one thing Witherspoon lacks, Playmaking ability. Davis had the same amount of forced fumbles in part time work this year then Witherspoon had in 4 years as a Panther. Witherspoon also had 12 PD's and only 2 int's - more of those plays have to go the otherway.

The question now is can Davis produce the 100 tackles a year that Witherspoon can and be the playmaker?

I do. WP's generally right that the one thing WW lacked was playmaking, and that's one thing that Davis excels at. I believe we'll be as good there as we were, so in that regard, WW's not a "huge" loss if/when. The problem is that overall we're losing talent on defense, and both in ability and smarts. Not that Davis is stupid, or less smart than WW - that's not what I'm saying. I'm just noticing that between last year and this, a lot of our leaders and heady players have/will have gone.
