I'd get the HK receiver. Yamaha and Sony low-end are crap, Onkyo is good but I'm not into discontinued systems. And people buying 7.1 receivers for $250 are funny to me - are they really investing to properly position speakers, buy decent speakers, etc. when they only spend a few hundred on the core of their system? 5.1 is fine...

If you're going 7 channel you need to spend more than $250.

i dont really need 7 channels. my viewing are is not that big. I wont even hear the difference. The 2 extra channels in 7.1 are just the same as the 2 sat speakers in a 5.1, correct?

yes and no. If your media is recorded in 7.1, it's different, but probably 95% of the media out there now is in 5.1. If you've got 5.1 Media, then yes, you extra two will just mirror the rears.DaveW said:
