Hartwig admits frustration
Submitted by Darin on Fri, 2006-11-10 19:18.
Panthers C Justin Hartwig, who has two games on his resume this year because of a persistent groin injury, admitted Friday he's near a tipping point at his season.

Hartwig said he hopes to be back on the field playing in a few weeks, but admitted if he's not, he may be forced to choose season-ending surgery.
That would be an 8-10 week process, which would mean he's ready to take part in offseason conditioning.

After injuring himself in the opener, he aggravated the injury last week in the weight room.

He's so bothered by the problem he's gotten a haircut and a shave, hoping the clean look gives him a clean slate of karma.

The season's half over, and Hangartner's not bad. Let him have the surgery, recover properly, and walk into minicamp as the multimillion dollar stud we signed.

Agreed, Hangartner is probably better than a gimpy Hartwig anyway.

I'd rather him try to rehab it at least for a couple more weeks.

PS, I'm sure the hair was his problem.

I was one of the most vocal "get him on the field" people, but I'm changing my mind. I did not know he wasnt fully healthy. Maybe they didnt want to keep talking about it, because they knew it was dragging out. Sometimes when you're waiting for someone to come, the team is unfocused. Like in 2004 and 2005 when Stephen Davis went on IR. The team knew they had to go with the people they had.

I think I would wait a couple of weeks to see if he's better, but that's all. I agree I absolutely don't want to mess up next year too. This probably all started with that late surgery for the hernia last offseason.
