Had a chance to watch a few games from last year, via-NFL.com (torture, yes). Hardy is very encouraging. Pittsburgh game comes to mind. They had him lined up at DE, DT, OLB in a 34 front. He has tremendous speed and is strong as hell. Missed some assignments, as do many rookies, but I would not be shocked to see Johnson walk. Not advocating it, but Hardy + Brown may fit what Hurney and Ron want, while taking CJ's money and investing on either QB or DT via-FA (once it resumes).

Hardy and Brown sound like good candidates for the other end. Certainly both will have grown a bit this year and no doubt they will benefit from having a goddamned lead every now and again.

No, I like the idea of keeping CJ. I'm looking at the potential financial end of things: when FA gets rolling, what will be the asking price? Is it worth retaining his services for top dollar, or putting that money into a top-tier CB or DT?

Hardy had 2nd most pressures on the team. That's not insignificant. There's no doubt he's as talented as any we have.

As for the fiscals, we're about to heartily overpay Kalil. I'm more OK with that than most. I anticipate that CJ will cost around as much and I'm OK with that as long as we do it.

I'm wondering if Kalil's was just a holder and a planned long term (nore cap friendly) deal is coming before the beginning of the season.

I would expect they'd sign him, sure. They have time with the tag, so certainly I hope they try CJ, DW, and Davis in that order after they can start. My feeling is that they already have a good idea of what they want to do when they're allowed.

I wondered when someone told me how upset they were that the team was NOT going to re-sign DW. I bet they were just going on news about the tag and assuming it meant they weren't interested in DW.

After the tag was put on, CJ and DW both stated that they wanted to stay and Hurney said so as well. They might be off on structure of the deal or years, or just value in general, but the want is there.

If we keep: CJ, DW, Davis, Anderson and maybe Marshall then add a solid DT either in the draft or free agency there is no reason the defense can not be solid and maybe even top ten. The pieces are mostly already in place.

I think the offense has a chance to be good too whether we keep DW or not. We have a good OL when it is healthy. We have two good backs even without DW. We have to two good young wideouts and maybe Smith back. We now have a tight end who can catch. All we really need is a quarterback.
