The National Football Post reports new Panthers OC Rob Chudzinski’s playbook is roughly 900 pages in length.

As a result, Post writer Dan Pompei believes the Panthers would be forced to do "some serious dumbing down" of their offense if they draft Cam Newton. It's hard to believe any quarterback could ever fully grasp a 900-page playbook, but it would be next to impossible for a rookie. This is an obvious piece meant to make Cam look like an idiot. We knew he was raw. We knew he was going to come in and need lots of time.

For those who are cool with Cam Newton coming in, understand he's not going to be ready on day 1, and you may as well join the ranks of those who are against the pick if you expect otherwise. There are valid points on both sides. This is far from an easy decision. Personally, I think AJ Green might be the best guy in this draft, and that's why a big part of me wants him. I also think it's a matter of time before Smitty is gone, and if we're going to stretch the field and help the running game, I would love a guy like Green.

But if Cam is indeed a franchise quarterback, even if it's going to take him a year or two to get to that point, which it would for anyone...I cannot justify passing that up. Question is, will he be a franchise guy.

But when we see a video of Cam struggling with a WCO playcall, which is pretty fucking obvious he's going to, we shouldn't be in shock. This kid hasn't been behind a center very much even. If we draft Newton, let's call it for what it is. We're drafting potential. Not a guy to come in and start from day one. If those on the Cam Newton bandwagon just want a QB to come in and start from day one and expect the normal and routine growing pains, you may as well leap on the Gabbert bandwagon riding close behind.

Personally, I like Gabbert too. I still like Cam a whole lot, though.

EDIT: And he comes off as pretty uneducated...I don't like that he calls Simple "simplistic", and Translate "transition".

Gruden actually goes really easy on him. Did he tee off on cammy when given several opportunities? No. .. about as "tough" as he got was;

"you're gonna move to france, and you're gonna have to speak french pretty quick"

How many people here see spoiled ass cammy changing his entire attitude, magically acquiring the mental ability and aptitude for "a foreign language" and having what it takes MENTALLY to become a starting caliber NFL QB??? If all we've heard so far about the panthers new offensive scheme is true then he would not be able to simply glance over to the sideline for a couple of giant flashcard numbers to handle the mental part for him. He was spoon fed and ass wiped at Auburn. You guys are as dumb as he is if you think he makes a successful transition to the NFL . .. and i'm not even talking about in his first year or two, i'm talking about EVER. He comes off like a cocky immature pampered brat who always sees himself getting catered to and getting by on his physical gifts. BTW - he'd better get a shit ton more accurate if he even expects to make it on the physical gifts alone

You may be right. But it's not out of bounds to think this kid can make it, either. Even Mayock says he doesn't doubt the quarterback, just the kid.

Which, looking at the fact that he struggles with English as a whole, one might think how the fuck can he learn a playbook. Michael Vick has done it. Michael Vick is not that intelligent.

Plus...would it be such a bad thing if we dumb down the playbook for his rookie year? That kind of thing is done all the time. The media and these loons writing this shit act like it's such a big deal, when in fact, it's fairly routine.

Would it also be such a bad thing if our coaches cater to the strengths of a player, and make adjustments to fit that?

Reid does it with his quarterbacks, and he's had tremendous success with his situations.

Shanahan's son has not done with with McNabb, and they've suffered as a result, when McNabb has said that booting him out more, making just a few adjustments to suit his strengths could've benefitted him and team a great deal...

So I hope we're willing to do that, and if we're not, then I agree with you, we shouldn't even sneeze in Cam's direction, because he's going to require that...and to me, that's ok, and to me, I think Cam can be a tremendous quarterback if he's serious about it.

then what we really need at #1 overall is newton's physical skills, leadership, and swagger, and clausen's football smarts, experience, and accuracy (and he was accurate enough when not feeling the inevitable pressure). Saying that, draft a frickin DT and bring in Bulger or Volek

I dig your observation on cams body language. Hiding behind the hand when put on the spot is telling, and i might be interested in the guy if he had done something Tebow-like by now . .. like getting some undercenter/NFL verbage tutoring by now or something.
