In union with the announcement for Rucker's NFCdefensive player of the month award, defensive back Deon Grant was given AP player of the week for his performance against Atlanta.

Marty Hurney: "He was a factor in that game. He had a lot of tackles and it seemed like every time there was a play, Deon was in on it."

Some of y'all ragged Deon for his game this past week.
Actually, even this accolade was buried in the Observer behind Buckner running his mouth about nothing in particular.

I hope he keeps it up.

Interesting - Grant's in a contract year, too, but it sounds like Steve-o-phone is the bigger priority. I think the front office is wait and see with Grant, too.

But i hope he shines. Nothing better than having your own develop, and keeping them together.

Except watching Delhomme torch the Saints and Davis rumble down spurrier's throat. That's nice, too.

Grant lead the team in tackles, and had a sack too I thought. He was my game ball player on D.

I thought our secondary as a whole played really well. Terry Cousin seemed to be back. Manning got a pick. Everybody was hitting well that day.

Boy, we sure are getting a lot of accolades for being such a shitty team (according to the "experts" at the beginning of the season:rolleyes: ). But, you won't hear me complaining!:D

Great too see Grant stepping up. Let see how he does against New Orleans WR corps.

The last game was the "they had that scared look in their eyes" game where the secondary took it personal and had a great game. I'm sure they haven't satisfied that revenge feeling yet.

I looked, and Grant had no defensed passes. He had no other stats. As a team, there weren't any forced fumbles and only four defended passes - two to Howard, who I gave props for finally making a play on the ball, one to Buck (I think) at the line, and I believe one to Cousin (who had that secondary sack, I think, as well - I'm being lazy and trying to remember what else was on there when I looked yesterday).

There were rumbles about getting Grant and Jenkins contracts early in camp, maybe was minicamp instead. I wrote something about it at some point in June I think? WP?

I think why Smith's is such a big deal, meat, is that Smith's a talker. Therefore he's been pushing this contract thing for a while - including talking to JR about it a ful year ago. But since Smith would be RFA, that $1.4 mil isn't needed to sit on the cap if he's signed. The problem, of course, is that if we make a move to better the receiver position (rather than just getting deeper like we did this year), re-signing Smith might suggest we don't need to do that. Which means we're down to replacing Muhammad, possibly, which given this team's history suggests a young receiver. Which suggests Proehl starts, which I'm not comfortable with. He's never been a #1 or #2. Smith's barely a #2 right now, because he has big play potential.

Maybe I'm just thinking it to myself then or something.

They didn't give up any touchdowns either. I thought they all held their coverages well and didn't give Johnson many options. I've just watched the game from the stands though, I haven't replayed it yet.
