Carolina Panthers running back DeShaun Foster recently had his contract restructured, helping the team free up $1 million in salary-cap space.

He dropped his base salary from $4.25 million to $750,000 for next season, but he was paid a $1.5 million roster bonus April 9 and will get another $2 million guaranteed roster bonus. That $2 million bonus will be split between this year and next for cap purposes.

There are no big name free agents left to sign and getting an extension for Peppers or Smith would not break the bank, this year anyway, so why are they clearing so much cap space?

It wasn't it's own thread, but someone posted mentioned this several weeks ago. I know I read it somewere on here.

Wasn't this done pre-Carr?

edit: Chip, yeah I put in a thread with some other stuff when it happened, and someone else added a post about it in another spot a day or so later. Anyhow, old news.
