Maybe it is in bad taste to talk about this but I am going to do it anyway. Where are we gonna be at linebacker now? Do we bring Allen in to start inside and move Morgan to strong side? Do we think Morgan has a prayer of staying healthy all year? What happens when he goes down again? Towns can play the middle I guess, can Allen play strong side? It seems like we have a huge hole at linebacker now.

Of course Fields health is much more important that football and I hope he makes a full recovery.

Seems as if they are going with Favors for now but keeping their eyes on the waivers.

I don't like our depth, and didn't before, but Allen's looking better than last year (when, at least, he was still a decent tackler). So having Favors and Allen to contend for the spot, it's not dire. We just don't have another good OLB, and of course, Towns is slow and Morgan's prone to being hurt. So depth is still a concern - we're paper thin now.

Field led the team in tackles, but we still have 10 out of 11 starters on defense returning. If Pep, Morgan & Buckner can play 16 games this year, we'll be awesome. Brain Allen can get it done I think.

Wasn't it "52" they were all talking about in camp, but nobody new his name? Where is that article?

that's true. Allen does look better, and finally he's gotten some playing time. Didn't play at all till he got here, so having him contribute last year was a plus. Hell he was 10th in tackles without getting PT in the first month. That's not terrible, and I think he can be a good threat upfield (reading, reacting) there. Can he be good in coverage? Can he be a total threat? Hard to say.

I wish Favors didn't make the mistakes he had, because then I could just pencil him in and not worry.

Fields speed is going to be hard to replace. If you look at the top defenses out there, they all have fast linebackers...I'd give some serious consideration to moving Morgan outside...he might last a whole season on the outside, IMO he's a little small to be in the middle anyways. With the two DTs the panthers have protecting the MLB, you can afford a drop off in speed there more so than the outside.

the closest to Fields in speed natural ability is Allen... the closest in experience is Favors... if Allen shows he can step up he'll be the better playmaker... Ciurciu is a Middle Linebacker... he's got better speed than Towns, but less experience and he's smaller

Yep - I see this as a boon for circiu b/c of his speed....and if he made the switch from FB a coupla years ago, he could goto OLB if needed.

But I agree, I think BA is the better choice.

I never underestood why they didn;t make an offer to navies. He made it through a season injury free, he had speed, and he signed with the Packers for pretty cheap.
