The Academy did force him to apologize, which was cowardly. What he said was not only factual, but complimentary. I still don't understand how saying "Group A has an advantage over other groups and I want more of those people on my team" is somehow offensive to Group A. It's also interesting to note that I didn't actually see or hear any black person take offense (not even Jessie Jackson, although I'm sure he would have). So the white members of the media are now deciding what does and what doesn't offend black people? Ugh. This whole sorry episode was completely disgusting, and I've written every columnist who has said something on the subject to blast them, granting that it will do absolutely no good.
