Error reading fixed disk

Any suggestions?

I have an old PC my boss wants me get running, but I think the hard drive took a shit.

I boot off the floppy, and when I run A:\Scandisk /all /surface, it scans in like a second. When I try to run C:\fdisk, that's the error I get

I got that with my laptop. Dell shipped me a new hard drive. I couldn't retrive any of the info either.

I think...
A: is the floppy drive
C: is the RAM drive
D: is the cd drive

So the computer isn't seeing the hard drive. On the start-up, the drive is seen as the Primary Master, but when the System Configs come up, under Primary Master it still says NONE

Sounds like it may not be connected? Slave/MAster switch wrong? Or try restting your BIOS settings to AUTO detect.

No, I figured as much. Just a little bored, so I was playing around with some parts. I just went with the one drive, the other computer will just have to sit. It's Pentuim II 350MHz with a fresh Win98. Slapped 256mb ram in it though.

Shoulda just told him the drive was fried and left it where it was.
