I've heard there is tension between what she (Teresa...his step-mom) wants and what he wants. The old blood is thicker than water routine. I believe he could easily pull away from her and be the commander of his own enterprise.

yeah he probably could but keeping it in the family has a certain intrinsic value. Especially if that family is pretty honest. Really ignoring the business side to concentrate on racing and still racking up the profits as an owner is as sweet a deal as one could ever hope for. Theresa seems to be a pretty tough cookie those are a rare commodity.
