A friend of mine ordered a barebox DVD/RW (NEC 1100A) from Tigerdirect.com
She asked me if I would help her install it. I did, fumbled around and got everything working. She bought Ulead Movie Factory 2 to drive it. Downloaded all of their patches. Went to burn a video CD with MD. It burned the CD, was able to take CD to another computer and view pictures. But now the HP Pavilion running Windows XP will not recognize the DVD as DVD. NO matter what I do, if I leave it plugged in and boot the box, it shows up as CD-Rom. What the hell do I need to do to get this thing to realize that it is a DVD/RW?

Hey Gonz,

I had that same problem with my HP DVD Burner using DVD XCopy. I would go to put a blank DVD in the drive and it change from a DVD-RW Drive to a CD-ROM drive. You may want to check the media you're using. I know it sounds odd but it happened to me. Try another blank DVD or CD in the drive.

uninstall the shit you installed and reinstall the shit that was originally installed

you've replaced a driver
