DVD for PC advice needed

Imma buy a DVD player for my computer tonight. I'm not looking for a DVD-R, I just want to be able to play DVD's and of course have all the regular CD-ROM abilities.

Any brands I should avoid?

Any brands recommended?

Minimum speeds recommended?

I haven’t done any research on those yet, my rule of thumb is you only get what you pay for plus pay a little extra for brand names.

Whoops my bad.... I forgot, since the badboy above also burns regular CDs, I'll be keeping my current DVD player so that I can put the "wink" "data" that I back up in the current DVD and burn a copy on the new one....

But I will have a CDRW to give away...

its better to copy a cd to your hard drive than to copy a cd from a cd-rom.
