Back home from Super Bowl, Staley reports jewelry stolen

Just one week after watching his team win Super Bowl XL, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Duce Staley said someone stole $100,000 worth of his jewelry at a Columbia nightclub. (It was supposedly a pair of diamond stud earrings worth about $50,000 and a platinum and diamond bracelet worth about $50,000 also.)

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, Staley said his jewelry fell off during an altercation at Club 54 on Two Notch Road on Friday night. No charges have been filed, and deputies are investigating, department spokesman Lt. Chris Cowan said.

Staley, a Columbia native and former Airport High School standout, spent two years in USC’s backfield under coach Brad Scott. In 1997 he joined the Philadelphia Eagles, with whom he had three 1,000-yards-plus rushing seasons and went to three NFC championship games.

He signed with Pittsburgh in 2004 as a free agent. He was plagued most of the season with injuries, which kept him from playing in the Super Bowl.

<<I want to know why he was wearing all that bling to a strip club anyway.>>

Here's another article with a little more info

Pro football player says he lost $100,000 in jewelry at Two Notch nightclub

(Richland) February 13, 2006 - Richland County investigators are trying to figure out how a professional football player lost $100,000 worth of jewelry in a Two Notch Road nightclub.

Former USC star and pro football player Duce Staley says he "lost" some highly valuable jewelry while he was getting roughed up by club security shortly after 4:00am Saturday at Studio 54.

According to the incident report from the Sheriff's Department, Staley says he had a VIP pass from management and was apparently trying to enter the club when he got into an argument with a security guard.

According to the report, one of the guards grabbed Staley by the throat. And it was then that Staley lost a bracelet and two diamond earrings, total value, $100,000.

Richland County Lieutenant Chris Cowan says the department is still trying to find out why a former Philadelphia Eagle and current member of the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers would be denied entry to the club, or how the jewelry could have been taken off Staley and simply disappear, "I know there was a bracelet that was involved which I would assume would be easy to come off during some kind of physical altercation. I don't know how the jewelry was secured to his body, so I can't really comment on it."

Staley has a home in Cayce. WIS tried to reach him by phone, but the man who answered hung up twice. And the club's owners were not available for comment.

Cowan describes Studio 54 as a "Gentlemen's Club," featuring women dancers. He says it has not been a major trouble spot for the sheriff's department, "This is not one of our problem location clubs. We've worked with the management, the management has worked with us. We have taken reports of larceny from autos, in the parking lot. We do not have a significant amount of incidents that have occurred at that location."

The jewelry is an 8.5 inch platinum bracelet and the two earrings. It's missing, along with some of the details of Duce Staley's night out.

How many times do you hear this type of story from washed up atheletes? It is really sad.

he probably got rolled by one of the girls and rather than admit it came up with the story on how he "lost" his shit there in an attempt to get it back.

Duce is telling a different story now about his bling

Staley tells TV station different story about jewelry theft

Pro football player says he lost $100,000 in jewelry at Two Notch nightclub

(Pittsburgh) February 16, 2006 - Pittsburgh Steelers running back Duce Staley now says he wasn't robbed of $100,000 worth of jewelry in a Two Notch Road nightclub.

Columbia police say Staley told them he had two earrings and a bracelet stolen early Saturday morning, but Staley is now telling WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh that he still has the earrings worth $50,000 and is reporting that his bracelet, also worth $50,000, was lost, not taken in a robbery.

Police say Staley told them he was robbed during an altercation in the club. Staley told the television station there was an altercation, but it didn't involve him and that he wasn't robbed.

Police say they're still trying to sort out the details.

<<It's not in this story, but I heard on the radio that his SB ring that he just got was also taken/lost that night. But, they haven't gotten their rings yet from this win so I don't think that that part of the story is true. It all sounds fishy to me.>>

Botched insurance job. What an idiot. I wish the Steelers would cut him. Never done shit.
