Somehow I got a laptop with XP Pro that does not have the above service installed and is related to why I cannot server asp or asp.net pages.

Supposedly everything after 2000 is supposee to happen. I've found that when its possible to be shipped uninstalled which can be fixed with a msdtc -install but mine doesn't even have the required .dll to do this. I get an error saying something like msdtmc.dll does not exist. Does anyone, (Bootay?), know anything about this? I can't find anything online referring to this being completely left off.

Honestly I'd just try doing a clean load on it to see if it fixes that.

Also, you can get any dll off the install CD if you have it, or if the i386 folder has been dumped to your drive. You'll likely have to expand it, but that's easy.

yes, when I get to where it says:

At a command prompt, type %WINDIR%\System32\msdtc.exe -install.

I get the messagebox saying "msdtctm.dll does not exist"

I'm looking at an xp i386 folder right now and that dll is there to be expanded and copied to \system32.

You may have to do a few more. It'll tell you what it needs.
Sure beats rebuilding from scratch.

The dos 'expand' command is easy to use, too.

What file is it in? Is it in a certain zip file or something like that? I can't find it/don't know what to look for other than the .dll name.
