I find it interesting that:

Walter Young is #5 receiver

Ricky Manning is #4 corner (above McDaniel)

Colin Branch is #5 safety behind Coop and Richardson

Eric Manning is 2nd team DT (Moorehead not even listed at all - might be b/c he's hurt, but Smith is listed as #2 receiver)

Bruce Nelson sucks - on the 3rd team behind camp fodder.

Shayne Graham is #1 on the chart ([probably as the incumbent, as is Jeno James this year - and jeno was 1st team this time last year b/c incumbent)

PREDICTION - Delhomme will start vs. Jags.

Interesting: Proehl ahead of Sauerbrun as holder. Also, no Steve Smith on returns at all.

What I found interesting:

Wilkins is listed at the #1 punt returner, but not listed in the top 6 at wide reciever. I would assume that will change as I don't see both Hankton and Black making the team.

Michael Bates is listed as the #1 kickoff returner.

PR: Wilkins, Black, Baker KR: Bates, Wilikins, Brown. No Smith.

Holder: Rickey Proehl as #1 and Sauerbrun at #2.

TE: Mangum, Wiggins and Seidman: imo if Wiggins make the team, Heinrich does not.

Graham is Right legged, and Proehl is the "right legged holder". Sauerbrun is the "left legged holder" for Kasay. Since Graham is listed as #1, Proehl is #1 holder.

So does this mean these guys are going to hold with their legs now? I've always said Fox was going to be a ground-breaking coach.

Shayne Graham


Kicker Shayne Graham is listed ahead of veteran John Kasay on the first depth chart released by the Carolina Panthers since the beginning of training camp.

After the quarterback battle, the kicking competition is perhaps the most watched of the preseason.

Also, Jeno James is starting ahead of free agent signee Doug Brzezinski at left guard. As expected, Jordan Gross is the starter at right tackle, and fellow rookie Bruce Nelson, while listed third at right guard, has played well and could move past backup Tutan Reyes.

Don't be fooled by running back DeShaun Foster's No. 6 ranking on the chart. If his recovery from knee surgery continues unimpeded, he should start the season at No. 2, behind Stephen Davis.

In the absence of Steve Smith (hamstring), newcomer Terrence Wilkins is slotted as the team's punt return option, with Michael Bates handling kickoffs.

The quarterbacks stack up as expected: Rodney Peete, Jake Delhomme, Chris Weinke and Randy Fasani in order

Odd. I'd heard from a couple camp reports he was working with first team. Makes sense, though. He's a more natural fit with Muhsin and Proehl. But if the season started today, Proehl would start I'd assume, and Young would be 3rd receiver.

I think I'd like to see Wilkins be on the 6 deep at WR, though. Nice to see Black showing up, but...

A little disappointing on Moorehead's part. But it was a risky pick and that was a known. The insect bite's legit but he doesn't seem to be in a hurry to knock heads.

Don't even bother getting me started. Even Leander could break second string immediately.

Probably so, on both. They've both earned that listing, but neither is by any means set in stone.

Like I said I hope so, I just don't think so right now. I could see them going to him by week 4 or 5 if we struggle, and if Peete gets hurt again they won't hesitate to stay with JD.

Eric Manning could make this team IMO. He's got a lot of talent for an undrafted guy. He lacks the physical size and speed but he's got an array of moves already. He can help in situational type role.

I want to see Manning JR on the field sooner than later. He makes plays and has great speed. He was a great pickup in the 3rd IMO.

Nelson certainly hasn't endeared himself. First a short holdout, as a 2nd round pick, and now he has to work his way on the team.

It would suck if, after so much offseason attention, we still have line problems. C'mon Jeno.

As long as we get something out of the rotation betweem Manning or Morehead, fine. That's what we needed. Moorehead is just a 5th rounder.
