Argh... Richardson plays STRONG SAFETY... Deke plays FREE SAFETY... the competition for Strong Safety is between Richardson and Jarrod Cooper not Deke.

To me the - 2 Coops are the backups for now. Richardson is history.

True, that is how they are listed. However, J-Coop's skills seem to be a better fit at SS. And since we did have Richardson and no other viable option at FS, Jarrod was there by default. Now if D-Coop can be a solid FS back-up, I think it makes sense to switch Jarrod and drop Richardson. Richardson's best value has been on Special Teams, and we have picked up quite a few quality ST players this off-season.

Say what?!?! Did you read my post???
Ok here let me explain the Depth chart as of now for the Safety position

FS- Deon Grant, Deke Cooper
SS- Mike Minter, D. Richardson, J.Cooper

The debate is whether or not Cooper CAN take Richardson's place as the backup SS... regardless J.Cooper has NEVER been slotted as the FS for the Carolina Panthers... he was the #3 SS and played ST... I've YET to understand why so many people keep confusing that... but anyways the way I see it for Cap reasons I wouldn't be surprised to see Richardson dropped and J.Cooper be the Top Backup at SS... the FS backup will be D.Cooper

I wouldn't write Richardson off too quickly. I read earlier in the preseason that Richardson is a special teams favorite of O'Brien's and now that he is asst. head coach he may get to keep the guys he wants.

Only thing is when faced to choose Jarrod Cooper or Richardson, I think O'brien would have an easy choice

Deke still has to win the job in camp.
Craig was the MVP over there a few years ago...look where that got him.
Richardson would appear to be the odd man out if D Coop is our #2 @ FS.
