Ok, my wife has a Toshiba laptop with Vista. I run Norton 360 and Malwarebytes but my wife is a fairly clean internet browser. Vista along with the bundled software was giving her fits so I blew it away and reloaded just Vista and all the drivers. It has run great for weeks but now the D drive keeps disappearing. I have Googled this up one side and down the other. I have tried all the fixes I have found. "Upper and lower filters" "Run this program", "uninstall reinstall, etc. etc. Nothing has worked. For one there are no "filters" and two you can't uninstall something that does not exist in the device manager.. I have tried manually removing and rebooting then reinstalling the drive. Itunes and Nero were never reloaded either. Any ideas? I have reached the end of Googles rope.
