Carolina free agent update

Freedom News Service

The Panthers met Monday with free agent running back Shawn Bryson from the Buffalo Bills and free agent wide receiver Brandon Stokely from the Baltimore Ravens, but did not sign either player.

FREE AGENT BREAKOUT:

After a slow start in the free agent market, things are beginning to heat up for the Panthers.

QB Jake Delhomme (N.O.) — Signed a two-year, $4 million contract with the Panthers last week.

RB Stephen Davis (Wash.) — The Panthers have made him a contract offer and are waiting for Davis to decide between Carolina and Houston.

WR Kevin Dyson (Tenn.) — Also offered a contract by Carolina, but visited with Buffalo on Monday. Washington is also interested in Dyson.

OG Doug Brezinski (Phil.) — According to league sources, the Panthers have begun talking numbers with Eagles guard, although nothing is imminent.

RB Shawn Bryson (Buff.) — Visited with the Panthers on Monday, but not offered a contract yet.

WR Brandon Stokely (Balt.) — Visited with the Panthers on Monday, but has not signed a contract.

CB Jason Seahorn (NYG) — Is familiar with the Panthers and is likely to visit Carolina sometime in the near future.

Other possible visits: Among the other players that may visit Carolina include Arizona WR MarTay Jenkins, Tampa Bay RB Aaron Stecker and Arizona OL Raleigh Roundtree.

The "informant" in Texas that has been saying that Davis has a 9.5 outta 10 chance of going to Houston just went on record saying THIS:

Looks like that 9.5 is diminishing down to around a 5.

Mark Berman reportred that Davis's agent has stated that talks between the Texans and Davis have been slowed by "extenuating circumstances" that were not divulged (in other words the Panthers upped their offer).

I hope it didn't go up by too much. His attitude and shoulder have made him worthy of passing up IMO.

Well we did just release Gilbert. Might be completely unrelated - but might not too. I hope Houston stands pat. They can outbid us easily if they wish.
