Panthers HC Ron Rivera told reporters on Sunday that QB Cam Newton is dealing with a hairline rib fracture and will not play in the team’s final preseason game, per Steve Reed.
However, Rivera expects Newton to play in the preseason opener against the Buccaneers.
Newton, 25, was sacked three times during the Panthers’ third preseason game and left after taking a hit from Patriots LB Jamie Collins. He underwent an offseason ankle surgery and has a completely new group of receivers to work with this season, so it will be interesting to see how effective he is to start the year.
Guys play through fractured ribs, but it can certainly be a nagging issue until it’s fully healed.

Our QB got injured in preseason because he;s running around all day with no receivers getting open and an OL that was almost wholly ignored.

And we call him our franchise guy.

The fact that Gettleman isn't working as a pro personnel guy on another team right now is mildly shocking.

Oh yeah. Broke one or rather got one broke by a fastball in high school. Hurt to breath, laugh etc... Cam I believe already wore a flak jacket but I would imagine he'll get a local shot for games and something else (vicatin) for after games. He had better not hold on to the ball like he does or he'll get the shit beat out of him
