WRC-TV's George Michael: Heading off to retirement . . . We're going to miss you George!!!!!


After 27 years on the air, The George Michael Sports Machine will air its last show this coming Sunday . . . . I can remember early on back in the early 1980's (before SPORTSCENTER became a nightly staple) George Michael going over the highlights from the past weekends big games. I think it aired in most markets late at night (it was on in the Triad area when I first moved down here in the early 1980's).

End of an era

"The George Michael Sports Machine," the nationally syndicated highlight show that has been carried by Channel 4 since 1980, ends a 27-year run Sunday night. Considering the proliferation of highlight sports shows on cable and satellite television, it's an impressive run. Michael, the show's host and executive producer, will be a guest on the KLAC 570 morning show with Fred Roggin and T.J. and Tracy Simers to talk about that run.

Your right . . . SPORTSCENTER came on in 1979, GMSM came on in the early 80's.
