Brees isn't going anywhere next season

Chargers have 20 million of cap space and will franchise Brees next year.

It makes sense too.......It's so tough to find a QB (as we all know) so if you have to burn a first round pick and some cash it's defintely worth it.

They will eventually be able to trade Rivers in a few years and will receive at least a second if not first round pick for him so it's really a no brainer to keep Brees.

More likely they tag him and then work out a deal to send him somewhere. They would get some draft picks and/or players for him. Bottom line is they gave up on Brees too soon and it is going to hurt them.

They gave up the best QB (with an asterik, since they really didn't have much choice), and traded down four spots to get the 3rd best QB. They passed up the chance to have an elite tackle or franchise WR at #1, a game-breaking safety or elite TE at #4 with the trade. In my opinion, guys like Lee Evans and Dunta Robinson will always be better than Rivers, who honestly should've been picked in the 20s at best.

They did use one of those picks for mccardell….although he is getting old.

A lot of scouts projected rivers to be a flop…because he throws almost side-armed. He could get away with that in college, but in the NFL, he’s going to get a lot of passes batted back in his face. Too early to tell though…brees will have to get hurt to see him play.

The franchise salary cap hit is over 9 mil for a QB…that’s going to limit the teams he can be traded to.

They'd be stupid to give up Brees, particuarly with so much cap space. Maybe if they got a couple of first rounders and pick up Brad Johnson is Rivers falters next year.

But I'd be inclined to keep Brees since they can afford it, and apparently they can.

McCardell was a good trade, and they got decent value out of Eli, but they passed up some incredible players for one that I didn't feel had any business going in the top 15.

Well, they did get Rivers. That's not nothing. His value can't be determined at this point, though.

So they got a young, promising qb to go with their young, proven qb. They also got a couple of picks.

Hell they should have a top ten out of NY's #1 next year.

All in all they've done good - Brees and Tomlinson for Vick. That was good.

I'd pay the daily fee for NFL pass or whatever it's called for that game just to see Rivers play.
