Has anyone heard anything much lately about the Bird Flu? Last year at this time, it was in the news every day. Now you will occasionally hear of a few deaths, and that's it.

Do you think this big scare turned out to be not much of an epidemic or it's yet to rear it's ugly head?

Actually the hole in the ozone layer is closing and if I remember right will be closed up in 17 years assuming no major problems. Once that happens the threat of global warming will diminish.

We agonize over avian flu, which to date has killed precisely no one in the U.S., but have to be cajoled into getting vaccinated for the common flu, which contributes to the deaths of 36,000 Americans each year. We wring our hands over the mad cow pathogen that might be (but almost certainly isn't) in our hamburger and worry far less about the cholesterol that contributes to the heart disease that kills 700,000 of us annually.
