Delivering Smiles
This is in the order of what I deem to be most important, but all seven are vital.
1) Philosophy & Motivation
Without directions, there's no destination. Why is football important? Why are some teams good, and why are some teams perennially terrible? What is the templet of a good team, and what are the tactical and technical skills required to emulate a successful franchise? And then, how do you get 53 millionaires - who are basically individual corporations at this point - to all pull in the same direction? If you can't answer any of these questions, you might as well jerk off and eat at Wendy's for the rest of your life.
2) Game Management
Identify every game situation, and prepare your players to handle each one of them. Have the right players in place to handle each situation. This is so much more important than having a bunch of cocksuckers who have high SPARQ scores. Each situation requires specific personnel with specific skill sets. I wouldn't ask Christian McCaffery to block a blitz on 3rd and 3, and I wouldn't ask Jonathan Stewart to catch an out route on 3rd and 7. Study and perfect the art of clock management. This is a Head Coach's most important role on gameday.
3) Defense
This is the foundation of your house. Offensive trends come and go, but teams with great defense always maintain a baseline of competitive football. You need pass rushers, linebackers who can cover space, and at least one alpha defensive back. You need this shit. Great defense establishes credibility. One thing I've noticed is that OC's are faggots who will call games based on a defense's reputation, so when your defense has a great reputation, you've won half the battle before it even started.
4) Special Teams/Field Position
This feeds right into the situational management discussed at the top. The point of special teams is to win the so called "hidden yardage" game. This is an extra dimension of spacetime that most fans pay little attention to, but it's so critical to achieving long term success. Good field position generally leads to points, while bad field position generally leads to points against you.
5) Offense
Run, run, run, run, run, run, throw it deep. I want an offense that bullies people into submission. All of the highflying trends of the passing game are great, and you can certainly borrow from teams of the like, but at B&B Pharmaceuticals we believe that the old ways are still best. Win at the line of scrimmage, run to set up explosive plays, score touchdowns in the redzone, and prevent turnovers.
6) Media/public relations
Sure, the media are a bunch of communist sympathizing queers, but it's still important to have a good relationship. Be polite, give polite and thoughtful answers, but don't kiss ass and don't give away your gameplan. If journalists don't like you, they'll try to sink you. You also need to have a sincere respect for your fans. The fans spend their time and money to glorify your profession. Don't be a dick.
7) Personal physical and mental fitness
You have to stay on top of this in any profession, obviously. Make time for it. Belichick studies while walking on a treadmill. This isn't going to turn you into John Cena, but it's better than sitting at a desk while drinking diet sodas. Make time for sleep. There's no god damn excuse. Manage your time so you can manage yourself.
