I'm with you gladhatter. I traveled to Charlotte yesterday for the open house at UNCC's Halton Arena. All the free food you could eat, free shirts, performances from the cheerleader & dance squads, meeting the athletic department staff, coaches & players, autographed posters, etc. They allowed the kids to go out on the court and shoot at the baskets, which I believe most would've done all day long.
My kids had a blast. It was like a small family reunion to me. I can't wait for mid-November. As for the 49ers, they have a nice schedule with 7-8 Saturday games, most of them at a tipoff time of 7:00, which I like.

I am generally a fairly regular at espn.com in the college bball forums. This is the time of year things begin to pick up with speculations of who's gonna be the toughest and so on. No one has anything to base anything on and the comments are a lot of blow. When the teams start practicing and preseason games begin I really get pumped.
I am looking forward to UNC having a another sub-par year!

Definitely ready...since rooting for Duke during football season is about as rewarding as support for the Washington Generals.
An exercise in painful futility. Thought the Pack looked good against New Mexico State...but then, Sorensen brought me back to earth that "State would play Duke, even if they didn't have to". I think the Packs future schedule will adjust his perspective...
In regard to UNC hoops continuing to be down - maybe, but I do expect the youth to have a very positive impact this season. Doh has his "own" now - let's see what he can do with a vaunted class...

You won't find any good college basketball at Halton. Try the Dean Dome in a little place I like to call "Blue Heaven". Go Heels.

Shocker, come on out to a game with me this season. The last time I looked the Tar Heels were stuck on three wins for the year 2002!

Charlotte, N.C. -- Known for putting together challenging schedules, Charlotte 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz has once again assembled a demanding slate that boasts 16 games against 2002 post-season participants. Of note, the 49ers have five games that will be nationally-televised and will play host to the three-day Pepsi Holiday Classic at Halton Arena, Dec, 27-29.
The 49ers schedule strength has been ranked in the top 33 in three of Lutz’s four years, including last year’s 22nd-ranked slate. This year, the Niners, who have been to the NCAAs in five of the last six years, will again face one of the nation’s top agendas. Eight of the 49ers 12 non-conference games come against 2002 post-season participants.
“It’s another ambitious schedule,” said Lutz, who has led the 49ers to NCAA play in three of his four years as head coach. “In addition to the always tough Conference USA slate, our non-conference opponents, collectively, represent the biggest challenge in my five years, here. The true basketball fan will know how difficult this schedule is.”
The 49ers non-conference schedule includes nationally-recognized powers such as Temple, Miami and Indiana, as well as NCAA Sweet 16 finalist Southern Illinois, NIT Final Eight finisher Richmond and NCAA qualifiers Davidson and Valparaiso.
The home slate is highlighted by the Pepsi Holiday Classic, non-conference showdowns with Temple, Miami and Southern Illinois as well as C-USA matchups with Cincinnati, Marquette and Louisville. The home game with Cincinnati will be televised by ESPN. In all, the 49ers have eight home games against 2002 post-season participants.
“This is, by far, the most attractive home schedule in many years,” added Lutz.
The 49ers local television package will be added to complement the current television schedule that includes five nationally-televised games and three games in C-USA’s syndicated package, ESPN-Plus.

Touche. The Heels sucked last year. Hopefully we can regain some of the old luster this year. I actually like the Niners since I am from the area. Hope they have a nice year this season.
